The James Gang

February James Gang Interview

Each month, I interview authors or publishing insiders who have some form of "James" in their names or in their books. My February interviewee is author Trevann Rogers, who has a character perfect for the James Gang!

1.Let’s get the most important question asked first: Why did you pick "Jamie" as the name of your character?

I’m not sure when or why Jamie became Jamie. I just know that Jamie was a must, and I didn’t want him to ever be James. So his "real" name became Benjamin.

2. What fiction genre(s) and/or sub-genre(s) do you write?

I write Urban Fantasy and LGBT Paranormal Romance.

3. Tell us about your latest release.

House of the Rising Son is the story of Cheyenne, an incubus rocker who’s trying to lead the life of his dreams and not the life his family wants him to lead.

You can find House of the Rising Son on Samhain Publishing, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon.

4. Is there a core story and/or a theme(s) in your books?

The core theme in my writing is being who you really are despite what society, family, or friends think you should be.

5. Do you have a favorite hero and/or heroine in your books and why?

My book was published in 2015, but I think Cheyenne has been in all of my writing for much longer than that, so I suppose he is indeed my favorite. I love him because he has a goofy sense of humor, is fiercely loyal, can play guitar like a maestro and, of course, he’s sexy as hell. He’s grown and changed through the years, of course, but he’s been there from the beginning, and I’m sure he’ll always be around.

6. What do you enjoy most about being an author?

I enjoy the act of creating worlds and characters that touch people’s hearts. And, well…I love playing in those worlds.

7. Do you have any awards, reviews, or kudos you’d like to tell us about?

I have some excellent reviews that made me quite happy. For instance, this one:

Once I opened House of the Rising Son, I fell in love with the characters, all of whom are strange in their own individual ways. They are also witty and funny and appealing. Oh, and incidentally, Incubi are also very sexy...

It’s amazing to know that other people have fallen in love with my characters, too. Besides that, I won an award from my writing group for the Most Creative Use of Procrastination Under the Guise of Research. That was because I once followed a band up and down the East coast. Yep, research. #dontjudgeme

8. How do you promote your books and your author brand?

I’ve done a number of things but am still learning. I use Twitter and Facebook, including Facebook parties. I blog at and also frequently guest post in an amazing community of writers. I have participated in author signings, did a reading at Lady Jane Salon in New York City, and appeared on local television programs.

9. What is your next project?

I’m currently working on Book 2 of the Living After Midnight series and am in the early stages of drafting a new adult novel. It takes place in the Living After Midnight world but has different characters.

10. Do you have a bit of wisdom you’d like to impart or a favorite quote?

There are many quotes that make me stop and think and offer encouragement, but the line that comes to me most often is from Finding Nemo. “Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming.”
