The James Gang

Danielle James

August James Gang Interview

Each month, I interview authors or publishing insiders who have some form of “James” in their names or in their books. My August James Gang interviewee is paranormal and contemporary romance author, Danielle James!

1. Let’s get the most important question asked first: Why James?

James is my married name. Although I am no longer married to that man, by the time the split occurred I was already publishing and chose to keep it for writing purposes. I am told that the family is related to the infamous Jesse James.

2. What fiction genre(s) and/or sub-genre(s) do you write?

I write paranormal romance but dabble a bit in contemporary [romance].

3. Tell us about your latest release.

My latest release is Into the Divine, book six and the final book in my Forbidden Love series. In this book, we see Detective Samuel Corbin, who has been with the Knight family since book one, finally find his mate in a gorgeous goddess who looks after his new family.

Here is the blurb:

Detective Samuel Corbin had seen his share during his life as the human liaison with the local vampire clan. He had been with the Knight family through thick and thin, and he had fought by their sides on more than one occasion. They had become a part of his life. When a brain tumor threatened to take Samuel's life, the Knight family gave him a new one. As the newest member of the Knight family, Samuel is taken by surprise when he loses his heart to the one woman he shouldn't have. Azerial is everything that is good and pure in the world, and she is too good for the likes of him. Samuel just knows that he will never be good enough for the goddess, so he sends her away. But a goddess does whatever she wants, and Azerial finds herself making a deal with the devil to be with Samuel. Now, the demon Abaddon is making a drug that kills humans, and he has the one thing that Samuel discovers he can't live without: Azerial. In an epic battle of good versus evil, who will fall, and who will survive? Will all be lost? Samuel knows that it isn't only the fate of the goddess he loves on his shoulders, but the fate of the world she protects. Samuel and his family will risk it all to save humanity, or go Into The Divine.  [*Contains explicit sex and graphic violence; recommended for 18+]

4. Is there a core story and/or a theme(s) in your books?

Yes, there is always a core story. In the Forbidden Love series, we follow each member of a family of vampires as they face everyday issues and find their one true mate. They just so happen to be rockstars, btw. In my world, vampires and other supernaturals live out in the open, and most everyone accepts that little fact. Most everyone.

In my book, Justified, there are no paranormals. In fact, it is as real as it gets. There is a romance there, but the book centers on a woman who lived too many years in an abusive relationship and ends up in prison for murder. The story is her journey to forgive herself.

5. Do you have a favorite hero and/or heroine in your books and why?

I think that Leigh (we meet her in book 3, Into the Fire) will always hold a special place in my heart. She is a take-no-BS, butt-kicking woman who is full of fire and has a mouth that could put any sailor to shame.

6. What do you enjoy most about being an author?

Besides the writing? The fans. I have been blessed with some of the most wonderful, loyal fans any writer could ask for. They are not only there for my books, but they care for me as well, and I am blessed to call them friends.

7. Do you have any awards, reviews or kudos you’d like to tell us about?

Let me share one of the reader reviews I received for Into the Divine:

This review is from: Into the Divine (Forbidden Love Book 6) (Kindle Edition):

Outstanding!!, June 5, 2014

This is going to be one of the hardest reviews I have ever written. Not only because of the book itself, but also because this one ends the series. An amazing writer is one who can draw you into a story and make you believe every thought, emotion, and detail. It doesn’t matter that it is paranormal and about creatures that don’t exist. You feel every single thing they feel. You root for them, laugh with them, cry for them, and sigh with happiness when things go well. For me, this series has everything I want in a book or storyline. These people choose to be a family. They are not together because of the circumstances of their birth. They are together because they love and respect one another, as a family should. Each and every one of them would die for the others, and some of them do. Into The Divine is the final book in the series, and in my humble opinion, is the best. Not only do we get to see the last “Brother” find his mate, but we get to see all of them, each and every one, fight together for the good of all mankind. It is a painful, emotional, gut wrenching ride at times. But it made me happy down to my soul, and made me ugly cry on more than one occasion. It has been one hell of a ride, and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. Thank you, Danielle James, for letting me be a small part of this journey, and for making me love this family unconditionally. There are not enough stars in the sky to rate this book, or this series, but since 5 is all they will let me give, it is my honor to do so.

8. How do you promote your books and your author brand?

I promote heavily via social media. I have just recently been brought on board with ARC (Author Reader Convention) and that is an avenue that I am excited to explore.

9. What is your next project?

I don’t want to give away too much, but there are demons running amok in my head recently.

10. Do you have a bit of wisdom you’d like to impart or a favorite quote?

Not a favorite quote, but if I had only one piece of advice to give aspiring authors it would be: Never give up. Write because you love it and have faith that things will work out. There are many bumps in the road but nothing you can’t handle. We all make mistakes and the key is to learn from them instead of letting those mistakes get you down.

Thank you, Danielle! My September James Gang interviewee will be Young Adult/New Adult author, Jamie Canosa!
