The James Gang

December James Gang Interview

Each month, I interview authors or publishing insiders who have some form of "James" in their names or in their books. My December interviewee is author Caroline Clemmons, who has a character perfect for the James Gang!

1. Let’s get the most important question asked first: Why James?

First of all, I wanted a name that would be used by a family of Scottish descent and chose Jamie Fraser. Second, I like that name and it seemed to fit this hero.

2. What fiction genre(s) and/or sub-genre(s) do you write?

I write contemporary and historical western romance and time travel. Jamie is a historical western set in Colorado and is a companion book to Caleb by Callie Hutton, Gideon by Cynthia Woolf, and Ethan by Sylvia McDaniel. We thought it would be fun to write about brothers whose Mama ordered each of them a mail-order bride. The brides arrived as a blizzard hit, and they were stranded at the Fraser ranch.

3. Tell us about your latest release.

My latest solo release is book five in my Bride Brigade series, Rachel.

In addition, I am included in Wild Western Women – Mistletoe, Montana. My story is Mistletoe Mistake.

4. Is there a core story and/or a theme(s) in your books?

Often my theme is redemption, not in a religious sense, but in a personal one. Another is justice. There’s always a theme, but the theme changes with the hero/heroine from book to book.

5. Do you have a favorite hero and/or heroine in your books and why?

Usually the couple in the book I’m writing.  ;-)  One couple that has remained with me is Drake and Pearl Kincaid in The Most Unsuitable Wife, one of my first books. Another couple is Dallas and Cenora from The Texan’s Irish Bride. I love all the heroes and heroines I include in my books, though, because they become real people to me as I write.

6. What do you enjoy most about being an author?

Freedom! I set my own hours, can work in my office wearing pajamas if I wish (but I don’t usually), and can write what I want when I want. I’ve been with a large NY [publishing] house, a small press, and now am self-published. Believe me, I love being self-published. Unless I’m working with other authors on a project, I set my own deadlines. Being independent makes me happy. I love writing, and enjoy every minute I spend in my little pink writing cave.

7. Do you have any awards, reviews or kudos you’d like to tell us about?

I have won a couple of awards and have been a finalist for others. I’m an Amazon bestselling author for several of my books. Wild Western Women – Mistletoe, Montana had a bestseller banner this morning, but it will be long gone before this interview is live.

8. How do you promote your books and your author brand?

With ads in places like Book Gorilla or the big one, Book Bub. I interact on Facebook and on Twitter. I post to Facebook special interest groups like Pioneer Hearts and Jacquie Rogers’ Pickle Barrel Bar and Books. I don’t do many book signings because I don’t feel they’re right for me (I’m an introvert). I have a great street team on Facebook. I also have a newsletter to which readers may subscribe to be included in contests, events, and for new releases. That URL is Caroline's newsletter. In addition, I blog on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at, on the 26th of each month at, and on the 2nd of each month at I send out swag with print book contest wins. My brand is “Writing love that lasts.”

9. What is your next project?

So glad you asked. Currently, I’m writing Angel For Christmas, a contemporary Christmas story. This is my first time to write an angel, but I’m enjoying the book. I love the cover Skhye Moncrief designed.

10. Do you have a bit of wisdom you’d like to impart or a favorite quote?

My favorite quote is “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” by Ghandi.
