THE JAMES GANG
September James Gang
Each month, I interview authors or publishing insiders who have some form of "James" in their names or in their books. My September James Gang interviewee is Secret Cravings Publishing author Brandi Quick, who has a sexy vampire perfect for the James Gang.
1. Let’s get the most important question asked first: Why did you name your hunky vampire in Cajun Lust "James"?
I knew a boy named James my first two years of college. We had lots of good times until he dropped out and joined the army. Needless to say I never saw him again. A mutual friend told me years later he didn’t make it back home. I cried for days. So now you will find a male, a nice male character named James in my stories. I still smile when I think of him.
2. Tell us about Cajun Lust.
Sometimes your guardian angel is not an angel at all, but a creature of the night.
In the Louisiana Bayou, sensual young women, Kim and Jenna, fall in love with irresistible young men, Tommy and James. What happens when they discover their handsome lovers are vampires?
Kim resists her longing for James and avoids other men. Her hell on earth begins when she becomes pregnant from an attack by a wealthy, influential man. James uses all his special powers to protect her afterwards, never losing hope Kim will accept him into her life.
The vampire underworld is a constant threat to humans who know about them, and James and Tommy protect those they love from death – or worse.
Kim loves James, but resolves to fight vampires. She knows James will watch over her, shadow her through her life, and they both accept their limited love life together.
Cajun Lust - When you grow up poor as Kimberly Linn DeVoe, anything is more than you have. Kim reaches for anything to get herself out of the bayous of Louisiana. She meets handsome, sexy James LaFontaine through a friend. When she realizes she has gotten involved with a young vampire, she draws the line despite her feelings for him. But now that she knows who and what he is, she is marked for death by the head of the vampire house. Can she be saved by what James teaches her?

3. Tell us about your upcoming release.
This is the first in the "My Lover" series about love found by women in places they are not looking, love they struggle to resist. Have you ever had a friend’s son underfoot, playing with your son as they grow up together? Then one day you’re hit with the realization he has grown into a young virile man, a foot taller than you? With one kiss you are turned from a guardian friend into a bowl of jelly, lusting after your best friend’s son.
Edie McClure has been without a man too long—six years too long. Her son, Tommy, has an eighteen-year-old best friend, Jon, who arouses long-dormant feelings in her, feelings he shares. Okay, so there are worse things than being a cougar, but there’s a big complication. Jon’s mother, Gwen, is Edie’s best friend. The two single mothers and their boys have been inseparable companions for years. Then Gwen makes a successful and very satisfying pass at Edie and the complications get deeper and wider.
If Edie succumbs to her pent-up lust for this hot, young man, how will Gwen react if she discovers the secret? The tension and the heat reach a climax at a pool party for Tommy, and the heat becomes searing in the weeks to follow.

4. Is there a core story and/or a theme(s) in your books?
You can put a lot of labels on it, but it all comes down to happiness. I try to leave everyone happy to one degree or another in my stories.
5. Do you have a favorite hero and/or heroine in your books and why?
My favorite heroine is Linda Lopez in Murder on Marsh Island. She takes early retirement as an Army warrant officer and is hired by a sheriff in a small county in South Georgia to start a CSI department. She is smart and she doesn’t realize just how beautiful she is, but the deputies do. I was so taken with this character, and convinced the readers will agree, I have planned a series around her.
My favorite hero has to be Jack "Hundo" Lane. He is the principal character and the hero in my series, "Reality of War." In the first book, The Reality of War, A Captain’s Story, he is a naïve eighteen-year-old from North Georgia. In the last book, Murder on Marsh Island, he is retired, with grown children, living with his wife on an island off the coast of Georgia.
6. What do you enjoy most about being an author?
Control—well, sometimes. No matter how much I plan, do an outline, my characters seem to always take over. I love watching their development.
7. Do you have any awards, reviews, or kudos you’d like to tell us about?
Not for fiction but many years ago I received several awards for non-fiction writing about investments.
8. How do you promote your books and your author brand?
I put together promo sheets and post them on various loops on the Web.
9. What is your next project?
I am working on several projects, but the next one out will probably be Kate’s Desires. It about a thirty-four-year-old school teacher who falls in love with her best friend’s son when he returns home after graduating from college.
10. Do you have a bit of wisdom you’d like to impart or a favorite quote?
There ain’t no free lunch. You have to work for it every day—nobody is going to give it to you.
Thank you, Brandi! My October James Gang interviewee will be Grand Central Publishing author Sue-Ellen Welfonder!
